So you’re at your favorite clothing store looking through the clearance section when you hear a song on the PA system. You really like the song and try your hardest to figure out what the name of the song or artist is, but it just won’t come to you. Before you’d have to have a phone with Verizon Wireless that was V Cast Song ID capable, but now iPhone owners are able to take advantage of this helpful service.
Erica Sadun, who has created many cool apps for the iPhone, has released a beta version of an app called Listen. You basically just open the app and hold your iPhone up to the music for 5 seconds and it then lists the song, artist and album. I’ve put this app on my iPhone and tested it out and it has not worked yet, but it’s still a beta so I guess theres some tweaking that needs to be done before it’s 100%.
This is still a nice idea for those times when you hear a song and want to purchase it with the iTunes Wifi Store app.
Update: I tested the app in my car and it worked 3 out of 3 times. It even worked when I put the music channel on my TV on 80′s Hits. Maybe the music on my computer at work is too “Indie” for this app to recognize my songs.
I just downloaded this app but have not tried it. I hope it works
yea i just downloaded it also havnt tried it ether but sounds kool B)
This is very cool. I haven’t tried it out yet though. I always find myself listening to a cool new song and wondering what the name of it is. I usually just listen to some of the words and then type the lyrics in a site called letssingit.com. But this process seems much better. I’m gonna have to try it out and see if it works.
That is amazing!!! I always hear the best songs randomly
looks pretty cool… Not sure if Ill use it.
Sounds interesting. This can be helpful to keep from going crazy when you can’t figure out who sings a song. Like was already said, it is a beta so it will obviously still need some work before a lot of people are willing to use it.
I saw this app earlier today when i was downloading showtime. I didnt really pay it any attention because I’m trying to minimize my apps. I’m already at 4 pages on the springboard. I’m downloading it now and I’ll test it out.
I downloaded the app and works great, I tested it with three different songs and it guessed all of them.
to mike h. – try the app categories, its great and it cleans up your springboard just fine – you make your own categories and pick an icon from the ones provided, then bam, no more cluttered icons and pages!
The listen app doesn’t work for me. I tried it on 3 seperate occasions and after it samples the music it just stays on the “connecting to server” screen. Anyone else having this problem?
(to ashley a.) thanks for the suggestion. I’m booting up installer now to add it.
hahaha i even tryd singing once to the Listen app and it took me to a totally different track lol
i’ve been waiting for this for a while now
this is awsome….
That looks awesome! This has happened to me SO many times… Always hearing a great song and I never found the name or artist…
