iPhone restore screen hacked

Posted in Video by Omar C. Published February 27th, 2008

Looks like some hackers have created a custom image where the normal “Connect to iTunes” image should be on a normal iPhone. This is the image that your iPhone shows when you restore your iPhone or iPod touch. It was a yellow triangle and has been updated to the iPod connector below iTunes icon in the most recent iPhone firmware versions. I don’t know if this is something really to be excited about, but I’m guessing it must have been quite a task to accomplish this. Kudos

iPhone 1.1.4 released, Jailbreak it now.

Posted in Apps by Danny Smallman. Published February 27th, 2008

Yes. Its true. Apple have released the 1.1.4 software update today. No big changed have been seen yet, but one things for sure, its most likely SDK support. Also, for you jailbreak lovers out there, Erica Sadun from TUAW has confirmed that Zibri’s jailbreak does work with the 1.1.4 update, released today. Also they say Nate True has tried it out with the new update installed, and that it does work. Also there’s no signs of any SDK news on the ADC website.

So big news for jailbreakers — update away, because the jailbreak wasn’t one of the “bugs” fixed. Although if this update is, as we suspect, laying the groundwork for the SDK release, we may not have to worry about applications not working on the phone too much longer.

1.1.4 is out! Did you upgrade already?

Posted in News by Omar C. Published February 26th, 2008

Yep, 1.1.4 is out for iPhone and iPod Touch. DO NOT UPGRADE IF YOUR PHONE IS UNLOCKED! If you have a jailbroken phone, you will probably lose all your apps and its jailbroken-ness. No SDK either. Yeah, today was the “supposed” day for the SDK to be released according to the various Apple rumor sites. The only new thing that dropped today was the new MacBook Pros with multi-touch and Penryn CPU’s. The MacBook also saw the Penryn CPU updates too.So yeah, did you upgrade to 1.1.4? If you did, see anything new?

Video Review #25: Tekkeon Sleeve Case [Update]

Posted in Cases, Reviews by Omar C. Published February 24th, 2008

Rating: 6 out of 10
Pros: Affordable price, good quality leather, free screen protector
Cons: No swivel clip, minimal screen protection
Verdict: Another high quality case at an affordable price from Tekkeon

You can buy this case directly from Tekkeon for $30.
[Update: Apparently I wasn't turning the clip on the back hard enough because it does indeed swivel into different positions]

iToner Updated For 1.1.3

Posted in Apps, News by Danny Smallman. Published February 21st, 2008

Ambrosia Software has updated iToner, its iPhone custom ringtone transfer software for Mac OS X. iToner 1.0.6 is a free update for registered users. iToner costs $15. It enables users to transfer their own MP3, AAC, WAV and AIF audio files to the iPhone, and use them as custom ringtones — without having to pay additional fees. In addition to iPhone 1.1.3 support, iToner now has French, German and Italian localizations, intelligent audio processing and other fixes and enhancements. iToner does NOT require a jailbroken iPhone for it to work. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.4 or later. To be honest, I just use GarageBand to make my ringtones. It may be a little harder for some people, but it’s free if you have GarageBand ’08. For those without iLife ’08, then this could probably work out as a much cheaper option.
