Kevin Rose… Will he be wrong again?

Gizmodo.com wrote this in regards to a recent Diggnation episode:

Digg’s Kevin Rose has now settled down for the obvious: he says that the 3G version of the JesusPhone will have a camera on the front for video-conferencing with other 3G iPhone and Macintosh iChat users. Most likely he is right about this, but not about the rest of his predictions:

Kevin also said that Apple has restricted background-running applications because they don’t want competition to iChat from third-party applications made using the SDK. The fact is that, if they wanted to ban any direct competition to their own applications, they will simply not approve them for publication and get done with it, without affecting any other developer.

What do you think? Personally, I see a 3g iPhone on the horizon before another camera. What’s your opinion?

I think Apple should work on having a video camera on the back of the phone before they start slapping em to the front for video chatting. Although I will admit, that would be a revolutionary move to mainstream video chatting on mobile phones. I know phones like the Nokia N Series phones already have cameras on the front, but I’ve never seen anyone actually use it for video calling.

I disagree. Video chat sounds great, but I have one major issue… what will it do to the battery life? Watching a video already drains the battery fairly quick. I have to think the battery would die after only an hour or two because of not only video playback being streamed (similar to how youtube works), but also the camera being powered and the internet sending your feed. It would also have to be WiFi only because the quality over EDGE would be crappy and I doubt that 3G would be a whole lot better. If video chat is coming, the battery life better be shooting up at least 2 or 3 more hours than the current iPhone.
