Video Wallpaper

Posted in Apps, Apps, Reviews, Video by Omar C. Published April 29th, 2008

Theres a new app called vWallpaper that allows you to play .mov video files as your wallpaper. Its a pretty cool idea, but it gets old really quick. There’s only a hand full of video clips that I would enjoy having as a wallpaper but I’m sure I’d go back to using the plain stationary kind. I’m sure using a video clip as a wallpaper probably also slows down your iPhone’s processor as well. If you want to give it a try add the following source to Installer on your jailbroken iPhone: http://i.danstaface.net. After you add the source push refresh and look for vWallpaper in the listings. Here’s a video of what it looks like on your iPhone. I’ll try to record a better quality video with my iPhone. You can add more Quicktime movies by installing OpenSSH via installer and using an FTP program to drop files onto your iPhone in the following directory /Library/Skrew/Videos. I’m pretty sure most people will shy away from adding videos until an easier way is created.

Foxconn Will Manufacture The Next iPhone

Posted in News by Danny Smallman. Published April 28th, 2008

An article printed in a Chinese news paper, The Commercial Times, is saying that the manufacturer Foxconn, Hon Hai Precision Industry, has landed the contract to manufacture the new iPhone. This should come as no surprise, but for those who don’t know Foxconn is the manufacturer of the current iPhone. The article then goes on to say that the new iPhone could ship as early as June.

It also says Apple has instructed the sources to begin preparing the manufacture of the new iPhone. The article says that the sources were told they need to “begin preparing material supplies by the end of May.” It also claims that the new iPhone should sell over three million units by the end of June. This seems a pretty huge estimate, and it also goes onto saying that they expect to ship 25 million in its lifetime. Looking at the figures though, if the new iPhone has 3G, it could be around a lot longer than the current one, and also appeal to a lot more people.

Review: Cellet Black Omega Vertical Case

Posted in Cases, Reviews by Omar C. Published April 28th, 2008

This case – is definitely for the professional who still wants to use the iPhone in the business world. It’s a simple pouch like case, made of synthetic leather with a magnetic enclosures to make sure the phone stays in. The inside is made of soft velvet-like material to avoid any scratches on your phone.

The total package comes with the leather Vertical case, and 2 optional holsters. You can use the case without the holsters but, I prefer to keep the case on my belt. Read the rest of the review after the jump.

Review: Cozip Soft Polycarbonate Slim fit

Posted in Cases, Reviews by Omar C. Published April 28th, 2008

Up for review is the Cozip’s Soft Polycarbonate Slim Fit Case – probably one of my favorite cases I’ve used so far.

The design is simple, yet stylish and protects only the back and the sides of the iPhone. Putting on and taking off the case is a breeze. The case is not slippery, but slightly rubbery, providing an extra grip.

This case obviously is not for those who want to protect and guard their phones from all harm. But for those who still want to show off their iPhone and still have some minimal protection, this case is definitely for you. Read the rest of the review after the jump.

Review: GizMac Titan Clear

Posted in Cases, Reviews by Omar C. Published April 28th, 2008

Well I’ve been using the Titan Clear for few weeks now – so here comes the review!

First off, I think the idea of being able to have a stand for your iPhone to watch or read something is great. The case comes with the ability to make your iPhone stand vertically and horizontally and I think GizMac did a great job of creatively inventing such a case. More 3G iPhone rumors

Engadget is reporting some specs from a “trusted Source” about the 3G iPhone we are all hoping for. As the story says “the second-gen iPhone is already well into testing, and numerous units are floating around in super secret pockets.” The trusted source got a chance to check one out and said……

Texting in Landscape mode?

Posted in News by Omar C. Published April 25th, 2008

I found this image on an iPhone forum, it’s from an episode of Law & Order: SVU (an awesome show). It shows a man text messaging on his iPhone, but obviously his iPhone is turned on its side which of course is not possible on any current iPhones. You are able to type in landscape mode when you’re in safari, but if you click on this image and see the enlarged version, you’ll see that there is no Google Search Bar and that there appears to be a name in the Top Center (just like when you text someone). I’m not going to put too much into this, but I thought it was worth posting. They are probably just using an instant messanger app on a jailbroken iPhone that allows you to type in landscape mode. They’ve shown iPhones on CSI taking video before so I wouldn’t get too excited about this image. It makes me wonder why the props people on this TV show would even go out of their way to fake/display this feature on the iPhone in the first place? They probably wanted to see how many fanatical iPhone blogs would go crazy and publish posts about it…oh wait

MySpace on the iPhone

Posted in Apps, Video by Omar C. Published April 25th, 2008

I myself am not a big fan of MySpace, (maybe it’s cause I’m not single anymore) but from what I hear it’s pretty popular. Here’s a video of a project that Jake Marsh is working on to make MySpace more iPhone friendly.

MythTV for the iPhone

Posted in Apps, News, Video by Omar C. Published April 24th, 2008

Modmyifone reports that a new front-end is being created for MythTV which will allow you to view recorded MythTV content on your iphone! You can setup your computer with the FREE MythTV software and hook up your satellite cable to your computer with a video capture card and you’ll have a free DVR setup that you can use to record your shows onto your computer. It’s only shown to work with wifi, but who knows, maybe once 3G comes to the iPhone you’ll be able to watch that recorded episode of The Office while riding the train home. Here’s a video demonstration:
