Buy Me An iPhone….but for 10k?

Posted in News by Omar C. Published June 30th, 2008

PhotobucketBrowsing ebay, I stumbled across this auction for an iPhone that had a “Buy it Now” price of almost $9,500. What is so special about this iPhone? It’s default case has been removed and replaced with a 24kt gold case mod. Also, the typical home button as well as the Apple logo on the back have been revamped with dozens of diamonds. The company who creates these pricey items…? Sayn Design. They also modify other phones, electronics, and recreational toys like golf clubs. According to their site, this German company says there are only 200 of these pieces available worldwide with each one individually numbered.

PhotobucketAlthough they have their Photobucketown site which describes their products in depth, it seems as if they only sell the modded iPhone’s on ebay (someone correct me if you find out different). Sayn also creates cheaper iPhones without the diamonds. These are sold on ebay for over $2,000. Surely that’s more in your budget. Right?

June 30th Last Day for App Store Submissions

Posted in News, Rumor by Ryan W.. Published June 30th, 2008

As we get closer and closer to the release of the iPhone 3G and the App store, more and more rumors begin to surface. Today for example is the unofficial last day for DEVs to have submitted their applications to Apple for review and final testing. I’m guessing that there will be at least a few hundred apps, if not a thousand of them. What I would like to know is, will this be enough time to review all of the apps? Will the DEVs have enough time to correct mistakes if any and re-submit them to Apple. I know Apple is awesome, but 12 days is a short amount of time to get this done. I hope this doesn’t turn into another AppleTV fiasco. Time will tell what happens. 12 days and counting….

2.0 App Preview #2 – iCall

Posted in Apps, News, Preview, Video by Ryan W.. Published June 30th, 2008

You and I are not completely happy with the Voice/Data plans that AT&T has decided to offer us. Albeit it’s still way better than what Roger’s is doing to our neighbors up north. But thanks to Steve’s giving DEVs the ok for allowing VOIP on the iPhone, we can all have some assurance that 450mins a month just might be enough. These really cool folks have given us a pretty cool app called iCall. iCall allows you to easily switch from the minute munching voice call to a much cheaper Voip call. With iCall, you are allowed to make and receive calls via WiFi. You are going to be able to access your same address book, along with being able to fully customize your voicemail options. The best thing about iCall is that it’s FREE. All calls made in and to US and Canadian numbers are free. The voicemail service that you will receive will be free, unlike other VOIP companies. From what I’ve seen so far, this is looking to be a pretty sweet app and maybe a must have for all iPhone users. I myself am going to be getting on for sure. No pricing information yet per the iCall website.

Gripping Grain

Posted in Preview by Omar C. Published June 30th, 2008

PhotobucketOk, I have a real treat for those of you who like the bizarre and over the top accessories that make your gadgets stand out from all of the rest. A company called Miniot uses wood to create cases for the iPod classic, the iPod Touch, and of course, the first gen iPhone. Recently, they announced that they will support the iPhone 3g starting in July. These special cases are conveniently entitled iWoods (last time I’m saying that for our immature crowd).

These unique cases protect the iPhone’s natural casing while leaving room for the volume and home buttons, as well as the inputs for your earphones, sync cable, and dock. Miniot allows you to choose from five variations of wood: Oak, Padouk, Cherry, Mahogany, and Walnut. Each case is carved from a single piece of wood and they also have an option for you to have a personal message, logo, or your name engraved on the back.

Be the first to have one of these classy cases. You can sign up on their site to be notified of when this case is released by sending an email to iwood@miniot.com. They will set you back about $115-$120.

Forget MMS, the iPhone 3G will have Holotexting

Ok maybe not yet, but who knows what the future will hold for the iPhone. I think they should perfect, or even introduce MMS to the iPhone before they start researching hologram text messaging.

Preview 11 of 30….FYI Benz Owners!!

Posted in News, Preview by Omar C. Published June 29th, 2008

PhotobucketSince it’s release in July 2007, the iPhone has been the ‘have to have’ phone by gadget freaks around the globe. It was named Invention of the Year by Time Magazine for the year 2007 and now Mercedes Benz has gotten into the action with a new feature. The crafty engineers working for Mercedes have created a cradle that integrates your iPhone with the functions of the car.

According to Benz Insider, this new component connects to the iPhone in the center console allowing easy access to both, the driver and passenger. When connected to the cradle, the iPhone uses the car’s built in antenna so you will always have the best reception available. Whether you are on a phone call or you are using the iPod to listen to the music via the Mercedes’ speakers, the cradle will allow Benz owners to use the functions on the steering wheel to control the multiple components of the iPhone. The LCD display shown in the pictures seem to display the call info, track info, and maybe even the phone book. I guess it goes without saying, it also charges the iPhone while these other processes are taking place.

So, you have your iPhone. You have a set amount of free texts with your carrier plan. Oh whats this, you also have Unlimited free data. Why not use that free data to send and receive an unlimited amount of SMS messages. This will only work with US and Canada numbers. Here’s how to do it.

1. Create a new email message.
2. In the To: box, type 10digitnumber@teleflip.com. (1235551234@teleflip.com)
3. Type a message and click send.
4. The message will be sent to the cell phone with the number in the To: box
5. All received text messages will be sent to you as an email.

You use the free service Teleflip.com to route your email messages to SMS and back. The service is free.

This means you won’t be getting instant notifications of these SMS->email messages since you have to wait until your email updates. This will be far less of an issue once MobileMe is deployed as you will be able to get Push email sent to your iPhone. Your views guys?
