Now Introducing to the Fray…….Me

Posted in News by Omar C. Published June 12th, 2008

Hi. My name is Mike Hobson. I’m a rookie in the BMAi staff of writers and I’m fairly new to the world of blogging. To tell you a little bit about myself… I am a 24 year old resident of Columbus, Ohio. Gadgets are my passion (not for sure if that’s good or bad yet) which is what lead me to my profession. By day, I am an Audio Visual Technician. If you don’t know what that is, we are the guys who set up the microphones, speakers, amps, projectors, screens, lighting, etc. for events such as business meetings and shows. I also work part time at Gamestop because I’m an avid gamer. If you are interested, my Xbox Live tag is “DatBobLeeSwag”.

When I’m not working, I like to work out, play basketball, and hunt down all of the iPhone and Blackberry news I can find. Yes, I do currently have a Blackberry because I wanted to sell my iPhone before the WWDC earlier this week. Its just my interim phone until the 3G comes out so don’t hold it against me. I look forward to keeping our viewers informed and up to date with as much info as possible. Like I said I’m new so if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions for me feel free. Thanks.

Nice to meet you fellow AV Tech. Do you work for a company or School?

I actually work for a small company called Visions A/V Services. Its a 2 man well oiled machine as we like to call it. My boss and I tackle about 95% of all of the workload but we enlist the help of others for certain events. How about yourself?

I work at American University in DC. Not as exciting as the stuff you guys probably do. But the perk is that we have a bunch of cool equipment available for “personal testing”. I would like to look for an AV job like yours but around here its hard to find a company that pays well doing this line of work. How long have you been doing it for?

I have only been doing it since late August. The easiest way to find a/v companies is to call around to different big named hotels. Talk to a sales manager and ask for the name of their in-house a/v company is. Make a list of them and research them. And yea I also like to “test out” all of our cool equipment. Half the time I’m at work I’m playing xbox, on the internet, and watching Sportscenter……at the same time. I’ve got about five 37″ hd tvs in my “office” plus a slew of other cool gadgets to play around with. Have you ever hooked an Xbox 360 up to a projector and played on a 10′ screen with the audio plugged into the house sound system……? Yes, God is good!!

LOL!!! nice, we hooked up a PS3 to one of our new HD Sanyo projectors…. Thanks man, I’m gonna try calling some hotels like you said. Looking forward to reading your posts.
