Steve Jobs may have emphasized when he first unveiled the iPhone, that it’s primary stylus is in fact your own finger, however, for those of you who want to use your iPhone without getting the screen smudged up from greasy fingers or perhaps want to use the touch screen when wearing gloves, the Pogo iPhone stylus is without a doubt, the best iPhone stylus available. I decided to test out the stylus and my results are as follows:
The stylus is simply phenomenal. It is incredible how responsive it is with the iPhone’s screen. The stylus is about the size of a pencil, encased in an ultra-light aluminum body with an anodized finish. The tip of the stylus is soft and looks to me like some sort of microfiber material. Being light-weight and looking slick in appearance, the Pogo iPhone stylus works great with the iPhone. Read the rest of my review after the jump.
For those of you who have numerous creativity apps such as drawing or sketching applications, the Pogo stylus works incredibly well and you can achieve impressive results from using the stylus. In depth however, a stylus with the iPhone really isn’t necessary unless you have long fingernails, wear gloves regularly, or eat lots of junk food and don’t want to make your iPhone’s screen look like the front door at McDonald’s. I would like to note that the Pogo stylus works incredibly well on the iPhone but is essentially useless unless you find yourself in the above situations.
The iPhone is built for finger usage rather than for styluses with multi-touch gesturing like the pinch and expand gestures with magnifying and zooming out of web pages or photos. I must admit though that accuracy is greatly improved when SMS texting or inputting text in Safari’s miniscule URL box. I could actually type faster and much more efficiently with the stylus than with my fingers. A big issue I had with the stylus was that it did not work well when screen protector film on the iPhone. I had to apply extra pressure on the filmed protected iPhone for the stylus to work. So, those of you who want to keep that extra protection on your screens, don’t bother with the stylus for it will not work as well.
Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: great design–looks very slick, works very well with the iPhone, enables you to type much more efficiently, avoid getting smudges on the screen, easy usage for those with long fingernails or wearing gloves
Cons: cannot use for multi-gesturing such as pinch and expand, does not work as well if the iPhone has a screen protector film, a bit too pricey ($19.95)
Verdict: The Pogo iPhone stylus is a truly phenomenal stylus with a very cool and slick design. It works very well on the touch screen. It will not leave any scratches on your iPhone like some of the lower end styluses will. The Pogo stylus allows for quick and efficient typing on the iPhone. The only negative aspect about it is that it will not work as effectively on an iPhone with a screen protector.
