Hey Omar,

Do you know what colors those were exactly? Vaja has all these weird names as you know: pistal, torrone, etc. I like your colors, but so many on the vaja site look the same that I’m unsure which to choose.

Thanks man,
TC

Hi Omar, thanks for the great site man! I found myself standing in an Apple store here in Calgary, AB (Canada) going through case after case trying to find something decent. I probably opened up about 15 different boxes to try them all out. I eventually ended up buying a Sena dockable but after seeing your review on the Vaja Classic Retro Dockable, I knew I had to get it and take the Sena back.

Just one quick question, does the flap have magnets on it to hold it together? I’m pretty sure it does but I just want to be 100% sure before I order it.

Thanks buddy!! Great reviews…this is the best site for trying to sort through the boat load of cases out on the market.

Hey Terry, I’m glad you’ve found the site so helpful. Yes the Vaja case does come with magnetic enclosures, which is why I like it better than the Sena Dockable with the snap enclosure. I’m actually using the Classic Retro Dockable case as my primary case right now, I love it!

Just wanted to drop a note that I got my Vaja Classic Retro Dockable case in the mail today. I gotta say you are 100% on when you give it a 10. The Sena was nice but this thing rocks!!

Thanks again buddy! Well worth the $$$ and the wait.
Take care.

Hey Omar,
Based on your review I was looking into getting this case. But as far as I can see, they don’t have one for the iPhone 3G. Did they stop making it or am I missing something?

I purchased the iVolution case from Vaja 8 months ago.
I loved the size/shape/quality of the leather even though I had some concerns regarding the clip/closing system-it seemed a little flimsy to me.
As it’s turned out, my concerns were well grounded as the closing system has now failed and the leather has worn out as well. What seems to be internal white plastic is showing as well as having failed structurally so as there is no longer any flexibility to it. I can no longer use the case as it provides no protection.
I think this is a serious flaw in the design. I’ve had a number of leather cases from Sena etc before and never had a problem. They’ve used various magnetic systems.
I’m really disappointed after spending a substantial amount of money on a Vaja case, that it has lasted such a short period of time.

I have an iPhone 3GS, I’m wondering if the magnetic closure messes with the compass app and the orientation function in google maps.

Also.. I have no idea what colour scheme to pick!!

Omar C says...

Excellent question, I’ll have to test it out

Marlon says...

Hey Omar,

are you sure your secondary colour is torrone and not Sabbia or latte? I’m a bit wary about ordering because if your secondary is torrone, it looks much more beige-like in your video when compared to the Vaja website.

I want my colour as Chocolate with either Latte Torrone or Sabbia, but I can’t decide because I’m not sure how accurate the Vaja online colours are.

Marlon,
That image I posted a few comments up is the actual image that I sent to Vaja to have my case made.

Hi Omar,

Thank you for great review! Any news on your tests with the magnetic closure affects the functionality of the compass on the 3GS?

Omar C says...

I did test it and it does indeed affect the compass on the iPhone. So if you plan on using the maps app, you might as well take the iphone out of this case or else the compass will keep asking you to reset it

Omar,

Thanks for your outstanding review, including the results of your experiments with the compass and maps apps. Earlier in the month I wrote an email to customer support at Vaja asking them if they had plans to redesign the Cassic Retro Dockable with a different closure for the 3GS. Alas, they are too busy to reply. Since the case is custom made, I would appreciate the option to have no closure whatever, and add either an exterior strap (to close the flap) or a pair of small velcro tabs on the interior. Another option would be to get the Classic Dockable (the design without the flap) with a hip pouch to protect the screen when the phone is not in use.
