Review: Speck ToughSkin

My final review of Speck products comes in the form of the Speck ToughSkin. The case is designed to provide the ultimate protection for the iPhone 3G. This case in my opinion is somewhere between the protection offered by The Otterbox Defender and the PixelSkin I previously reviewed. Click on after the break to read the review.

The Case
Speck is here again with another great case. The ToughSkin does a really good job of protecting the iPhone from drops. While in my opinion it doesn’t live up to the strength of the Otterbox, It certainly does a very good job. First of all, the idea inside the case is really cool. A plastic cover covers the front of the iPhone, around the edges of the screen, and then inserts into the outside silicone casing. Also, the silicone is pretty thick. All the ports, such as sleep/wake, silent and the dock are still accessible. The case also features designs like the PixelSkin, as it covers the volume and Sleep/Wake buttons, but allows you to use them through the case. The bottom section of  the case also pops off to allow it to be docked. This is a really nice feature, as with some cases, you have to remove your iPhone so that it can be docked, but not with this. One negative I have about this is that, even though the bottom comes off for docking, then why is there no dock connector protection. I’ve seen a few cases that offer either rubber or plastic inserts that prevent dust and other things from getting into your dock connector, and I thought this case would include one.

Everything Else
I’m sure if anyone using this case were to drop there iPhone, that 9 times out of 10, no damage would be caused. You may be wondering why I say 9 times instead of 10. Well, my main complaint about all of the Speck Cases I have received is the fact that no screen protector is included. One of the main things that needs to be protected on the iPhone is the screen. I am actually a bit annoyed that the ToughSkin, which is designed for the highest protection, but yet has no screen film.  On a positive note, the case also comes with a Belt Clip. This can not only be used to attach it to your waist, but it can be used as a video stand. A nice little touch I think. One thing I found with the belt clip, is that it can be used as a from of screen protection. While it wont protect your iPhone while your using it, It will cover the screen up while its placed on your belt. This is a great tip, as if you are one that always has your iPhone on their waist, then the screen can be protected when it’s faced in.

Overall

Pros: Great Case, Offers good protection. CURRENTLY ON SALE @ $17.47

Cons: No screen protection, although the plastic holster could help out a little.

Overview: Amazing price at the moment, usually $34.95. Offers great protection for everyday use, as well as times when it’s needed the most. Really great case and definitely worth buying. That is why I have chosen to give this case the BuyMeAniPhone Editors’ Choice Award.
