External iPhone Keyboard

Posted in News by Omar C. Published December 31st, 2008

Remember when the first iPhone was released and how people were up-in-arms about it not having a full Qwerty keyboard? Well it looks like one developer has taken matters into his own hands. Ralf Ackermann has created this mod using a Robotech Bluetooth module that’s placed inside a modified external battery (looks like a Mobile.Brando Power Station) and connected to an unlocked iPhone (or iPod Touch) which, in turn, communicates with the keyboard using the Bluetooth SPP profile (a VNC server and a few other tricks also come into the picture). Don’t expect to see this hack in the App Store anytime soon (or ever), but Ralf is promising to give out the necessary schematics and source code so others can have a go at it.

You can haz 3G!

Posted in News by Ryan W.. Published December 31st, 2008

iPhone case Yep, you saw it here first folks. Ok, maybe not, but still this is so funny it’s definitely worth a post. So I’m probably one of the dying race of original iPhone owners, but everyday I keep getting reminded of how cool this phone is. So first we got a GPS module and now we have the ability to fully customize our first gen iPhone to look like it’s newer cousin. A seller on eBay has begun dishing out iPhone cases to mimic the back of the new iPhone 3G, complete with the text on the back of the phone. Not only can you change the way your iPhone looks, BUT you can automatically increase the GBs of your iPhone with this mod. Ok, not true, but all the cases show as the 16GB model. Well, how much is this going to set you back you ask? $6 bucks, folks. Yep, I already ordered mine. Hit the break for more photos.

Thailand Beats Cupertino To The Punch

Posted in News by Danny Smallman. Published December 29th, 2008

Well, I think most of us knew that it wouldn’t take long, but its shocked me as far as releasing a clone of a product that hasn’t even been announced yet.

A set of iPhone Nano Clones have hit the streets of Thailand, and even though they most likely run like crap, I’m actually surprised at how, well, nice looking they look. These actually look as though they could pass for the real deal to some unaware customers. Also, as you can see by the 8th picture, they have actually made an all white iPhone, which put some people off of the white iPhone, having a white back and black front. Be warned though guys, these may LOOK the part, but as with most knock-offs you find, they”ll probably have no customer service, no warranty and these things may not be entirely safe to use. Besides, there’s only a few more days to wait. Click the link below to see all of the images.
