Video Review #112: Ivyskin Quattro T4

Posted in Cases, Editors' Choice, Reviews by Omar C. Published December 10th, 2008

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros:
Built-in glass screen protector
Cons:
It’s a bit tricky sliding your phone in
Verdict: Ivyskin has really stepped up their game in regards to innovation and the overall quality of their cases. The Ivyskin Quattro T4 currently ranks #1 on my list for plastic cases. I’m definitely giving this case the Editors’ Choice award.

You can purchase this product directly from Ivyskin starting at $45.

[Update: Ivyskin has currently made available a holster for the T4]

Why didn’t you show us using the actually screen, that’s what i was waiting for, for those entire 7 mins!

i was wondering the same thing..about to purchase a iphone when my contract is up with verizon on the 15 and i have decided to go with this case or the fuze..thanks for the great reviews they have helped alot with my decisions.

Trust me the screen works flawlessly with this case on your iPhone. If you’re trying to decide between this case and the Fuze case Adam, go for this case, I’m currently testing the Fuze right now and I’m a little let down, the screen has bad air bubbles and isn’t very responsive. That review will be up soon

Thanks for the great video. I’ve been using this case for 2 weeks now, and it is the best case there is. I don’t know how they made the screen to work, but it does and works like magic.

Keep up the good work Omar.

hi there,

just wanted to know if you used the case with a screen protector (like a plastic one) in addition to the built in one that the case has?

thanks.

Omar C says...

I didn’t use a screen protector with this case and I wouldn’t recommend doing so since it’s already a snug fit and I think having the screen protector on would just make it more snug. You really don’t need it with this case.

Hi! Just want to ask if the T4 attracts air bubbles, too. I want to buy this case but I have to be sure it doesn’t attract air bubbles. I hate air bubbles in my screen.

Thanks!

Omar I love your reviews! I was wondering if this case will work with the invisible shield?

Omar C says...

This case might work with a screen protector, but I would not recommend it, the case would be very snug and might scratch the back, plus theres no need for it since you have the built in glass screen protector

I bought recently the T3 xylo touch thru case and I noticed very poor touch response on the corners. Ivyskin is willing to allow to pay 15 dollars and send back my old case for the new quattro T4 but I’m afraid I’ll have the same touch issues. Can you comments specifically on the touch response especially at the corners or edges. Thanks.

Omar C says...

I didn’t have any issues with the corners of the T4 case, but this may be an issue that comes up on a case by case basis

Have you tested the case with the holster yet? Sounds like this case is the one for me, but I really need some way to attach to hip/belt… the holster looks solid. Thanks

Omar C says...

I haven’t received the holster yet, but from the images I’ve seen it looks like.

I had this case on my phone and the glass produced an awful “rainbow” effect on the entire left side of my visible screen area. It literally went from the edge of the phone to about 1″ into the LCD area.

There was also a noticeable effect at the top of the screen that just barely went into the LCD area. This was not nearly as bad as the side however.

Their customer service is absolutely HORRIBLE! It took them three days to get in touch with me. I called their support line several times to leave a message and emailed just as many with no response until three days later through email. Sales support told me to email technical support and they would contact with me.

I just wanted to exchange the case thinking that it may have been defective.

Technical support finally got in touch with me and told me to return it for refund as this is the nature of the chemical properties of the material. There wasn’t even a suggestion for an exchanged. When I asked for that they said, “well if you want to, but may have same problem”.

After dealing with this, I finally decided to take it off and send it back for refund, but because it fit the phone so tight and gets caught at volume buttons it shattered in my hand. My loss of $50.

Overall, I wouldn’t suggest this phone due to “rainbow” effect which really makes the phone unusable, but could be hit or miss from what I understand. Next, customer service is horrible if you need to return it or exchange as I previously discussed.

I was very dissatisfied!

Oh and the clip that goes with it is EXTREMELY cheap too. Felt like it would break after a week.

The paint started to peel after 3 days of use. This is a crappy product for the amount someone is paying. I would not rate this a 10. I would have to really consider buying again from this company.

Omar C says...

The paint is still fine on mine after months of use. I have noticed that the snap enclosure has loosened up a bit so I will lower the rating .

Hey Danny…I was going to buy the T4 at the office also but wanted to know with the tight fit getting phone in and out of the T4 case, Did it scratch your iPhone???

That is my main concern that it is going to scratch the phone.

Thanks

Sean says...

I’ve owned the iphone and the T4 for two days, now. I received the case before the iphone came in the mail, so the iphone went in the case before it was ever turned on or “touched.”

The touch screen works great. The sides are a little less responsive, so I have to use my left index finger on the right side of the phone when performing the fast scroll functions of certain apps. (Whereas I am able to use my right thumb on the right side of the screen when using an iphone without the case.) Not a big deal.

The “oily rainbow”: I don’t exactly have an obnoxious oily rainbow throughout the screen. However, when there’s a window or bright light to my left, the top right of the screen has a very small rainbow. It’s about a half-inch wide and one-inch tall. It’s kind of like looking at your screen with polarized sunglasses. All I have to do is turn the phone in any direction away from the light and it goes away. Also, not a big deal.

I was able to fit the T4 (with phone inside) into the Belkin Fast Armband for a jog today. It was a really tight squeeze, but the extra protection is worth it. BUT when I took it out of the Belkin Armband, I noticed a quarter-inch by an eighth-inch area on the front right that began to peel. Also, there is very minor peeling along all the seems (the case came that way).

The peeling is a little annoying, but after reading online reviews I expected it. Just not quite so soon.

I haven’t seen or read of a case that can compete head-to-head with all the features of the T4. For me, other cases were too thick (ie. Otterbox) or looked like furniture in plastic (ie. Naked Case).

This case is the top-of-the-line screen protection. I’ve seen too many iphones with cracked and broken screens. The $45 price tag and the peeling issues don’t compare to the cost and hassle of replacing a broken iphone.

My iphone won’t leave this case until something better comes along, or I’ve upgraded the phone. In one or two years from now, I’ll be able to resell my iphone as “slightly used.”

Thanks,
Sean

Can you give me an opinion on the difference between the T4 and the T2? I can’t decide between the two although I have seen a lot of negative comments on the web about the T4 peeling and not fitting snugly over time. Which is the newer product? Thanks.

Michael Chylinski says...

Long drawn out incomplete review. It has an optional clip and that was the part I really wanted to see. I think you made what it is made out of as clear as mud. Oh well… I don’t think I will bother paying $60 for something that may or may not be cool.
