Video Review: Fastmac TruePower iV

Posted in External Battery, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published February 25th, 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros:
3100mAh battery triples your battery life, integrated flash, sync while iPhone is in case, additional USB port to simultaneously charge  another device, reasonable price

Cons: User needs to put in sync mode before sync will take place, would have like to see a little color on the unit, at times I forgot to turn the flash off so an auto off for the flash would be nice

Verdict: All around I am very impressed withe the TruePower iV from Fastmac.  At the same price as other case style batteries it provides 1/3 more power with the 3100mAh battery. It provides sync-ability as well as the ability to charge another USB device.  The integrated flash is really the icing on top. Not only does it make low light photos actually usable but also sharpens the photos that you “think” have enough light.  I also use the flash for checking in on the children late at night so I don’t have to turn all the house lights on. It adds a tad more bulk than it’s major competitor the Mophie juice pack but then again it integrates even more into the finished product.  A great product from Fastmac and I believe you will be happy with your purchase.

The TruePower iV is available from Fastmac and comes in 3 versions to power the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G as well as the iPod Touch and the price ranges from $79.95 to $99.95

Video Review: Griffin Elan Form

Posted in Cases, Reviews, Video by Omar C. Published February 24th, 2009

Rating: 6 out of 10
Pros: Slim very form fitting. Feels good in the hand.
Cons: There is no rubber lining on the inside of the case, seems like it would scratch your phone very easily. Also leather seem to lift up on the corners
Verdict: Griffin is known for their great quality, but the Elan Form may need a little improvement. It’s a little scary to slide in and out with no cushioning on the inside.

This product can be purchased directly from Griffin for $29.99.

Video Review #144: Marware Protection Pack

Posted in Mac Monday, Misc, Video by Omar C. Published February 24th, 2009

Rating: 6 out of 10
Pros:
Smooth surface on the trackpad protector, nice thick durable microfiber cloth
Cons:
It’s a little on the expensive side for what you’re getting.
Verdict:
Marware has come out with a unique protection kit that some may find to be very useful. But I feel that the average person is not going to want to spend $30 for the pieces that come with this pack.

This product can be purchased directly from Marware for $29.99.

Video App Review: Appigo Notebook

Posted in Apps, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published February 24th, 2009

Rating: 7.5 out of 10
Pros:
Great notebook app that allows you to categorize notes into folders. Can automatically turn a note into a Todo item via Appigo’s Todo Application. Ability to sync with free online task management system toodledo.com
Cons:
May have more features than the average notebook user needs. A little on the expensive side at $4.99.
Verdict:
Appigo has done a great job integrating the Notebook and Todo Applications in that you can turn a Note into a Todo item very seamlessly.  If you are a user that has multiple notes for multiple parts of your life; Home, Work, Play, Website, whatever, you are able to categorize your notes which in turn makes them a lot more manageable.  Appigo also went the extra step in putting in a progressive search capability, meaning the app will search as you type in each letter.  It does not make you type in the whole word then press search like other apps.

Appigo Notebook is available through the iTunes store for $4.99

Verdict: There’s no better way to customize and to make your MacBook stand out from the crowd than installing a Gelaskin. There’s so many great designs to choose from, you’ll probably end up buying more than one.

“Mac Monday Review”: Switch MB by Brenthaven

Posted in Bag, Mac Monday, Reviews by Tom Moccia. Published February 23rd, 2009

Rating: 10 out of 10
Pros:
Extraordinary quality and workmanship, switchable flaps, more pockets than you know what to do with, nicely padded laptop compartment, stylish is an understatement.
Cons:
If you use a horizontal sleeve for your laptop you will probably want to find a vertical one. So many cool colors and styles it will be hard to pick just two.
Verdict: The Switch MB by Brenthaven is a high quality bag at a reasonable price starting at $129.95.  It’s refreshing to see a manufacturer take into account the fact that tastes and styles change over the life of a bag.  The reversible flap lends itself to versatility and the fact that you can purchase additional flaps for $29.95 shows just how economically friendly Brenthaven is in regards to value and customer satisfaction. So much so I am giving the Switch MB by Brenthaven the Editors’ Choice Award.

The Switch MB can be purchased on the Brenthaven website starting at $129.95

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros:
No power required, looks like a cool paper weight, acts as a dock

The sound quality is not as good as a powered speaker system
Verdict: Griffin has created a unique one-of-a-kind product with the AirCurve. Not only does it look sharp, but it performs too. It receives our Editors’ Choice Award.

This product can be purchased directly from Griffin for $19.99.

Big sound from little speakers, portable, comes with mesh bag, rechargeable
