Stephen Elop, president of Microsoft’s Business Division, revealed that Microsoft will eventually release a mobile version of Office for the iPhone.
What Elop said is that Microsoft recognized that there is a growing demand on the Smartphone market for access to a variety of productivity applications. While the users of iPhone can access Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, they also want to be able to edit them from their Smartphones.
Elop was asked if this meant that iPhone users would eventually get access to a mobile edition of Microsoft Office. “Not yet, but keep watching” Elop said. So we can assume that this is a possibility, furthermore Microsoft is still planning to introduce a Web edition of its bread and butter Office suite. This is especially important for people in Europe where more than 90% businesses run Windows and are using Microsoft’s Office suite.
