Hulu App Coming?

Posted in News by Ryan W.. Published April 21st, 2009

HuluYou have no idea how long I have been waiting for this application to see the light of day. Unless you have been living under a rock you already know what Hulu offers free videos and TV shows online. Well after sometime they are finally bringing that goodness to your iPhone or iPod Touch. The application is said to offer TV and Movie streaming via 3G and WiFi. Hulu as you may or may not know offers ad supported content. So be prepared to see commercials before and during the program you will be watching. The length of the commercials aren’t outrageous, usually lasting thirty seconds. Hopefully this app does not have the same outcome as the Sling Player app. AT&T shot down the release of that application in fear of customers using too much data while watching TV. Also this would seem to be an issue with Apple itself. A person would no longer need to pay Apple to download a show or Movie via iTunes to watch later, streaming would be instant. We can only wait and see what comes of this.

Pros: Voice activation feature to launch targets is a nice option in the game.  Free in App Store.
Cons: Phone needs to be Horizontal or Parallel to the ground to play the game.  Voice activation feature is not perfect.
Overall: Game can definitely be improved on with added stages and improved use of the Voice activation feature.

Speck Dexter iPhone case

Posted in News, Preview by Martin B. Published April 21st, 2009

Icarus Studios prepared some nice merchandise for upcoming Dexter game for the iPhone. They have for us iPhone cases based on the hit Showtime series DEXTER. If you are not familiar with that show I can tell you that it is drama/crime series,  centered on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a serial killer governed by a strict moral code who works for the Miami Metro Police Department as a blood spatter analyst.

These are high quality cases made by Speck. They are based on the Candy Shells so they are hard plastic shell cases. While it’s unclear if the cases will be made available for the public for purchase, but if we can get our hands on one, we’ll definitely do a video review on it.

You can view a short trailer for the upcoming Dexter Game for the iPhone after the jump.

Mac Monday Review: Griffin Radio Shark

Posted in Mac Monday, Reviews by Danny Smallman. Published April 20th, 2009

Today we have the Radio Shark for PC/Mac by Griffin up for review. To put things simply, it is an AM/FM receiver for your computer, that allows you to listen to your favorite radio stations anywhere. All you need is a spare USB socket to plug it in.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Radio Shark is the design of the actual product. In my opinion, Griffin has done an excellent job for something as simple as a radio receiver. The shark fin shape of the product can fit on any desk or workspace, without looking out of place. Also, the Blue lights that are on the side can be simply switched off, or set to a pulsing effect. Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Very easy to use interface, excellent voice recognition, works in all applications including but not limited to iChat, Email, Word etc.  Basic commands are learned very easily, fun to use, includes headset and microphone.
Cons: More complex commands are harder to remember and memorize.  The price may be a bit high for the casual user.
Overall: MacSpeech has taken voice recognition to a new level.  I was skeptical, considering I have tried voice recognition in the past, but within minutes of installing MacSpeech I was up and running.  Composing while only speaking is not only cool but efficient especially for the typing challenged.  Others that will benefit are those that can’t physically type for one reason or another.  I was so impressed and enjoyed using this program so much it gets the Editors’ Choice Award.

You can learn more about MacSpeech and it can be purchased on their website for $199.

Pros: Finally an app that provides this service. Great communication from DEVs to consumers.
Cons: Crashes and slow scrolling in previous versions. (Updates have all but removed those problems)
Overall: This is a really nice app and a good buy. The speed in which the Devs have updated the application to improve it’s performance is fantastic.

myMovies is  now available in the App Store for $1.99
