MacRumors may have the very first shot of the rumored iPhone 3 next to the current 3G. The current rumor mill states that the new iPhone will have a “rubber matte” finish. Personally the rubber finish will help with scratches and from a grip stand point. However, I do not find the finish appealing at all. I feel sorry for all the 3rd party case developers. I feel that a lot more users might opt to not buy a case because of the new backing. What do you guys and gals think?
I think if this ends up being the new iphone then case makers are going to have to step their games up. Now a case is almost required, with a matte backing cases become optional. For the sake of case manu. I hope this isn’t the new iPhone
cases that have enough bulk to protect the external buttons by recessing them are worth their weight in gold. i se the extruding buttons as a total design flaw, flush with the body or recessed is crucial.
if the buttons are recessed how would you easily get to them… I think the protruding buttons are great, it makes them easy to access. Something that would be cool though is heat sensitive buttons… but then cases become harder to design.
i don’t see apple making the iphone with a matte back… and i hope that is a fake… i mean i really don’t want them to make a plastic back again because the plastic backing sucks! with its cracks and smudges and scratches the plastic is horrible, but i don’t dig the matte back
i agree with you all the way. companies like switcheasy will die with this. i will stick with my 3G thank you very much.
I hope that is does not have the rubber matte back. I would love to see an brushed aluminum back. FTW
Our sources confirm that this is the next iPhone.
It will be called the iPhone 3.5G and it will be announced in July of 2009.
