Video Review: iKit Leather Case by Checkmate

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Well constructed, feels very nice in the hand, extremely soft both inside and out, very executive looking.
Cons: As with most open face leather cases the top of your phone is exposed a bit and lacks protection. Phone does not fit in dock while in the case.
Overall: I have never been a fan of the open faced leather cases but this one is well constructed, stylish and softer than I would have ever guessed both inside and out.  This case feels good in the hand and I have no worries taking the iPhone in and out of the case often.  This case is priced right for a leather case at $30.  This case will stay in my personal collection and gets my Editors Choice Award.

You can purchase the iKit Premium Leather case from their website for $30.

Mac Monday Review: Contour Mouse

Posted in Mac Monday, Reviews, Video, mouse by Omar C. Published May 18th, 2009

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Very comfortable to use, comes in 4 sizes
Cons: No wireless model available, slightly more expensive than the average mouse
Overall: The Contour Mouse, was definitely made for comfort. It takes some time to get used to it, but once you do, you’ll probably want 2, one for home and your office. The price is a bit expensive for the average consumer, but if you’re constantly dealing with wrist pain, or if you have Carpal Tunnel, then you owe it to yourself to check out this mouse.

The Contour Mouse can be purchased directly through Contour Design’s website for $109.95.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Pros: Fast, simple, safe, multi platform, FREE for noncommercial – personal use
Cons: Sometimes there are some problems with connection and with transferring files to remote computers. You have to be on a decent Internet connection with a high bandwidth upstream to use highest quality settings.
Overall: This is definitely a must have application if you use more than one computer. With TeamViewer you can establish connections to any PC or server all around the world within just a few seconds. You can remote control your partner’s PC as if you were sitting right in front of it.

TeamViewer is available for multiple platforms, from Windows to Apple Mac OS X – and can even be used for cross-platform connections from Windows to Mac and back! You can download your free copy here – http://www.teamviewer.com

Video Review: Zagg Z.Buds Earphones Ver. 2

Posted in Earphones, Reviews, Video by Omar C. Published May 18th, 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: Some nice improvements from the first version. Comes with variety of tips and includes a fabric carrying bag
Cons: The overall length and size of the earphones are a little too big to stay comfortably in my ear.
Overall: With all the extra features that these earphones include, they are well worth the price. The sound quality is good and the average person probably won’t have trouble fitting these earbuds in their ears.

This product can be purchased directly from Zagg for $79.99 w/ mic & $59.99 w/out mic.

App Review: myBalloon

Posted in Apps, Reviews by Omar C. Published May 18th, 2009

myBalloon

myBalloon is a $.99 application for your iPhone or iPod touch and as the name describes the goal of the game is to blow up a balloon. As I mentioned earlier this does work on the iPod touch but you will need either an external microphone or the pump button to fill the balloon. On either platform, you can tilt or shake the device to interact with your balloon. When you touch the balloon it squeaks and you can even overfill and pop it.

Rating: 6 out of 10
Pros:
This app is perfect for children.
Cons:
It’s not really fun or stimulating: it’s just a virtual balloon.
Overall:
This game is similar to iSteam in the sense that it has a novelty feel bringing you back to your youth. At $.99 it won’t break the bank but personally I would never purchase it and would recommend Brain Fit for the same price. It’s not meant to be over analyzed so if you find this interesting feel free to spend the money on it but if I had the urge to play with a balloon I would purchase a physical one.

Pros: Simple & cheap. This is a good game to exercise your brain.
Cons: Very very annoying music/sound effects.
Overall: Great game which will help you increase your perceptiveness, and it will teach you how to concentrate your mind. Great for kids so they can develop very important skills which will potentially help them achieve great things in the future.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Pros: Interesting idea of interactive movie game concept. Really scary sometimes :)
Cons: The sound is sometimes a bit annoying and the quality of video could be a bit better – you can see compression with Macroblocking sometimes.
Overall: Great game for a reasonable price. There is now a LITE version available so if you are not convinced go check out the free version now.

You can purchase the full version for $1.99 or the FREE lite version in the App Store.

Pros: You can do everything in relation to managing your account as you can do online.  Family plans are broken down per phone number, check minutes, pay bill, view PDF of your entire bill.
Cons: Data usage does not update quickly and is unreliable.
Overall: I’m glad to see AT&T finally released this App it makes managing your bill and paying via your iPhone extremely easy.  With everyone seemingly running from here to there and life getting more complicated it’s nice to see that AT&T is simplifying things for its customers.  Very useful App and it’s FREE.
