App Review: Copter Kid

Posted in Apps, Apps, Game, Reviews, Video by Quinn. Published July 31st, 2009

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Beautiful graphics, and menu systems.  The music is quite catchy and non-repetitive.  Addicting.
Cons: Not integrated with Twitter.  Not many players (easy to get high score).
Overall: A fantastic game with an extremely high replay value.  At $.99, it’s a must have.  Oddly enough, I find myself playing this more than some of the games I have paid in excess of $10 for.

Video Review: Incase Slider

Posted in Cases, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published July 31st, 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: Lots, and I mean lots of color and finish options. Great protection, covers chrome bezel, great fit and finish, does not add much bulk.
Cons: Expensive, after a while sometimes the bottom does not match up with the top portion.
Overall: A fantastic case that has been in the top 5 of my personal collection for quite a while now.  There are plenty of colors and new styles to chose from such as the Bamboo Slider.  Incase is a respected company and they make great products and the majority of them are in the Apple Store.  I would like to see their cases priced a bit more competitively now that there are a lot of options out there at lower prices.

You can purchase this and many other slider cases by clicking here. The Incase slider is priced at $34.95

This is a giveaway video!!! Leave a comment & tell me the time stamp of where I repeat myself and be entered to win this incase slider. Deadline Saturday, August 1st, 2009 4pm pacific time.

App Review: Ten Pin Bowling by Skyworks

Posted in Apps, Apps, Editors' Choice, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published July 30th, 2009

Rating: 10 out of 10
Pros: Awesome reality: pin and ball action is on the money. There are even bowlersbowling in lanes next to you.  Fast play, multiple players.  Background sounds put you right in the bowling alley. Trophy room is an added feature.
Cons: I would love to see online play where you can challenge other users around the world.
Overall: David Crane from Skyworks definitely bowls a 300 with this game.  I am blown away yet again by the realism and fantastic play of Ten Pin Championship Bowling.  He puts you right in the middle of your local bowling alley, the only thing missing are the smells. Frankly at 99 cents this game is a no brainer.  Another Editor’s Choice Award for Mr. Crane and the Skyworks team.

You can purchase Ten Pin Championship Bowling for 99 cents in the App Store by clicking here.

Video Review: Tekkeon TekCharge (MP1550)

Posted in External Battery, Reviews by Martin B. Published July 29th, 2009

Rating: 7 out of 10
Pros: Cheap device that will be able to power up your other mobile devices from AA batteries
Cons: I get only one full charge from 4 AA Energizers and battery indicator sometimes isn’t showing the correct battery level.
Overall: This is a good solution for some emergency situations such as camping or other places where there is no electricity – all you have to do is carry a few spare AA batteries with you and charge your device from them.

iPhone 3.1 will allow for Augmented Reality Apps

Posted in Apps by Omar C. Published July 27th, 2009

Augmented reality uses the device’s GPS, camera and digital compass to overlay real-time data onto live video. Here’s a video demonstration of an app called Nearest Subway which utilizes this feature. This is only the tip of the iceberg. These types of Apps are what will really differentiate the iPhone from other smartphones with built-in digital compasses.

Video Review: Kensington Slimblade Notebook Mouse

Posted in Mac Monday, Reviews, Video, mouse by Omar C. Published July 27th, 2009

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Very slim, light weight and there is an area inside for storing the Nano Receiver .
Cons: It’s hard to utilize the side-to-side function on the scroll wheel, I kept accidentally clicking down on the scroll wheel on most attempts.
Overall: I really recommend this mouse for anyone that is looking for a notebook mouse with a slim form factor. It’s comfortable to use even though it’s very thin and the Nano Receiver is probably one of the most innovative USB dongles I’ve seen.

You can purchase this product directly from Kensington for $39.99.
