App review: Phases

Posted in Apps, Apps, Reviews by Danny Smallman. Published July 21st, 2009

Phases comes from the guys at Bjango that brought one of my favorite apps, iStat, to the iPhone. Phases is a great app for a wide range of people. Weather someone is just curious to find out what the moon will look like at a certain time in your location, or if your an avid astronomy fan, who loves to learn everything they can about lunar phases.

The app uses the GPS in the iPhone (and I assume WiFi location services in the iPod Touch) to find out exactly where you are. It will then use this information to show what the current moon will look like to you. It will also give a brief summery below of the next important moon phase.

The next page will give you a lot more information. things like, age of the moon, distance from the moon, sunrise time, sunset time, moon rise and moonset time. You can then also use the arrows to go through the days. If you also press the calendar icon, you can choose an exact date and time, and the app will display the info.

The next page of the app will show you an overview of the rest of the month for moon phases. I have to be honest, when I first saw this app, I thought I wouldn’t be interested at first, but then the more I used it, the more gripped I became with the app, and the more use I could see from it. This really is a great little app, and for $0.99/£0.59, you cant really go wrong.
