TomTom for iPhone Shows Up in the Night

Posted in Apps, News by Tom Moccia. Published August 17th, 2009

With much fanfare at WWDC, TomTom announced they would be developing a navigational app for the iPhone.  Since then there has been much anticipation and speculationPicture 2 on when the TomTom would become available.  As weeks passed and they turned into months many other turn by turn navigational apps started to pop up in the app store such as Navigon, Xroad, Sygic and iGo.  Well as I was browsing the app store late night to my surprise there it was, TomTom Navigational app priced from $74.99 (Australia) to $139.99 ( Western Europe), the other 2 that fill in the gaps are US & Canada priced at $99.99 and New Zealand at $94.99(Click each region to be brought to their iTunes App store page).

With all the fanfare that came along with the announcement at WWDC it was super surprising that they just showed up in the app store during the night.  Very Ninja like!!

Don’t expect it to work flawless until they also release the mount which gas the tomtom separate high accuracy gps chip in it. The waiting isn’t over!

Once it comes though it is reported to:
provide superior gps lock in low signal areas
charge the phone
handsfree speakerphone
line out for the radio

I downloaded the app yesterday and I traveled all over Brooklyn queens and the Bronx and Riverdale NY. I must tel you that not once did it lose the gps signal even btw. Tall buildings. I have the other gps programs and they dance around like a drunk. So if you are going to download a gps app. Download tom-tom
The map interface is simple but it works flawlessly.
It is more expensive but it works.
I paid for all of them and they are not worth .99 cents.
I hope with time tomtom is going to update this app without charging add. Money.
I think I don’t need to buy the cradle because it’s working fine without it.
If tom tom could add commercial veichels. and street names. and better way to work with contacts. then my life is complete
