Video Review: Dome Skin

Posted in Cases, Reviews, Video by Pashyn. Published September 30th, 2009

Rating: 7 out of 10
Pros: Adds a decent amount of scratch protection to the covered areas. The front of the skin (if you decide to use it) adds a lay-on-the-table design. It also adds hardly any extra bulk.
Cons: Big dust magnet around the corners and sides. Doesn’t stay adhered to the device for very long, after a few days it started to bubble up.
Overall: There are many companies that provide skin designs and just like cases you’ll probably have to do some searching until you find that “perfect fit”. The dome skin has its issues with the dust and adhesive however it also added protection where other thinner skins couldn’t. Its all about preference on this one.

App Review: The Music Quiz

Posted in Apps, Apps, Reviews by Tom Moccia. Published September 30th, 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: New take on the classic music quiz game from the click wheel iPod, guess from your music library lyrics or album art. Tournament or endless mode.
Cons: After a while you will know all your songs and it gets dull, a bit pricey at $1.99.
Overall: The Music Quiz is a great app that gives you a fresh take on the classic music quiz game that is included on the iPod Classics.  The best part about it is you can choose whether you guess from lyrics along with the name and artist of album or lyrics and a thumbnail of the album art.  This game is a bit pricey at $1.99 and would loved to see it at 99 cents.  If you love trivia as well as your music this is the game for you.

You can purchase “The Music Quiz” for $1.99 in the app store.  Click here to be brought to their app store page.

Video Review: iAntiVirus Software

Posted in Reviews, Software, Video by Omar C. Published September 29th, 2009

Rating: 10 out of 10
Pros: It’s FREE, what more can you say
Cons: You’ll probably never catch any malicious attacks on your mac
Overall: What more can I say about this software, it’s FREE. Why not protect your Mac from any possible threats that may be placed on it. Like I said in the video, I’ve never had any issues with viruses on my Macs, but I can’t think of any reasons not to have this running your machine. You’ll barely even notice that it’s there running in the background, but trust me you’ll be so thankful that it is if you ever run into a malicious attack.

Go download iAntiVirus for FREE from their site. It’ll be the smartest software install you’ve performed all year.

AT&T adds “A-List” to Select Customers Accounts

In a surprising turn to giving customers something for nothing, AT&T implemented the “A List” this week.  So what is the “A List” you ask?  Well AT&T customers that have an individual plan starting at $59.99 or a Family Plan starting at $89.99 can add any 5 or 10 numbers respectively to their account at no charge.  Yes I said “no charge”, “Free”.  These calls will not deplete your anytime minutes.  This is similar to other carrier programs such as T-Mobile’s “my faves” or Verizon’s “Friends & Family”.  This adds significant value to AT&T customers plans and is brilliant marketing.  Now some customers on $39.99 individual plans  and customers on family plans below $89.99 will complain and moan that its not fair to them and that AT&T is doing this just to get people to upgrade plans.  I say “So What!”.  AT&T is a business and is there to make money so if it gets some people to upgrade what’s wrong with that?  The more important aspect is it may draw some customers to AT&T that might be hesitant without a circle of friends sort to speak.  So AT&T is stepping up their game, now they are the only carrier with rollover and have added a service that other carriers tout.  Right now it is tough to find a better value than AT&T and once they convert to the 4G network with better all around coverage it may be tough to find any shortcomings.  Time will tell and we will keep you up to date on any new features.

Video Review: U2O iUP-5400 Battery

Posted in External Battery, Reviews, Video by Omar C. Published September 28th, 2009

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Comes with tons of adapter tips for many devices. Built-in LED light.
Cons: You can only charge the unit with the wall AC adapter.
Overall: This is a very nice external battery pack that every iPhone owner should have. I’m still shocked that it can fully charge an iPhone at least 3 times. Even though it has some weight to it, it’s still pocketable and easy to carry. For $60, it’s a really good buy.

You can purchase this product directly from LuckyPacks.com for $60 by clicking here.

Now Get An iPhone 3G for $49!!! Really.

Posted in News, iDeal by Tom Moccia. Published September 28th, 2009

Screen shot 2009-09-27 at 10.12.07 PMHave you ever wanted an iPhone 3G but just couldn’t bring yourself to shell out the cash?  Well very quietly on Friday, while everyone was going go0goo gaga over the release of MMS, AT&T dropped the price of a refurbished iPhone 3G 8GB to $49 and the 16GB to $99.  Now at $49 the iPhone 3G 8GB model is less than most other smart phone offerings from not only AT&T but pretty much any other carrier.  When I read this I was immediately brought back just a few short years ago and remembered when the original iPhone cost just about $500.  Then I heard this interview in my head, it was some reporter asking Steve Baller of Microsoft about the iPhone, I then heard Balmer’s voice and immediately got nauseous.  I then heard him laugh and exclaim “$500 for a phone? fully…HAAHAH..” well you guys know the rest.  So now a refurbished iPhone 3G is $49 and can hardly be criticized for being “too expensive”, so if you have always wanted an iPhone but thought you couldn’t afford one now is the time to take the plunge and join the party.

Video App Review: Skyscrapers by Skyworks

Posted in Apps, Game, Reviews by Tom Moccia. Published September 28th, 2009

Rating: 7 out of 10
Pros: Highly addictive, more than enough levels to keep you playing, affordable, it’s from Skyworks.
Cons: When you start a new game you have to keep conquering the lower, extremely easy levels.  This aspect makes the first 3-5 minutes of the game kind of slow.  The Hallelujah music after completing each level is annoying and it takes a bit to load the next level.  Music is a bit annoying but I usually play it in bed with the volume off.
Overall: Skyscrapers is a highly addictive game from Skyworks, who as you know is one of my favorite developers.  I really wish Skyworks programmed in the ability to “master” a level so you don’t need to start at the very easy levels every game.  Load time from one level to the next is a bit slow to load. the music at the end of each level gets old pretty quick.  It would have been nice to have some variety.  For 99 cents this game is a bargin and it’s from a trusted developer which outweighs the drawbacks.

You can purchase Skyscrapers by Skyworks for 99 cents by clicking here and being directed to their iTunes page.

How To: Get MMS On Your iPhone 3G or 3GS (AT&T) Without Updating To OS 3.1

Posted in Tips, Video by Omar C. Published September 26th, 2009

As I’m sure you know, AT&T has finally supplied iPhone customers with the option to send picture and video messages. Outside of the US, MMS has been available on iPhone’s since the launch of OS 3.0 while other phones have had MMS for years. Now that MMS is finally available the simple yet convenient feature can be seamlessly used by all. In fact, MMS doesn’t cost a penny more than regular SMS messages. For me, I’m on an unlimited messaging plan which comes in handy!

However, using the regular iTunes update method, users are required to run OS 3.1 before seeing the option to update the MMS carrier file. It is incorrect however to say you need OS 3.1 to use MMS. The video bellow walks you through the process of enabling MMS on your iPhone 3G or 3GS without installing OS 3.1. Simply download this file, option click update in itunes, and install. (I uploaded this file to my dropbox account so don’t worry about the download being malicious)

There are many reasons to stick with OS 3.0. Maybe you want to keep your 3GS jailbroken, or you want to use your 3G with exchange but not having MMS is a bummer. This simple process allows you to keep your current installation and simply enable MMS.

Scosche tuneSTREAM Bluetooth headphones

Posted in Bluetooth, Earphones, Reviews, Video by Omar C. Published September 25th, 2009

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Comfortable fit, great battery life
Cons: Would have preferred being able to charge using a micro or mini USB instead of the proprietary plug it uses
Overall: The tuneSTREAMs are a very nice pair of headphones that will work with the iPhone 3G and 3GS. I really wish they came with a carrying case or had a charging plug with micro or mini usb so I could use just one plug for my cameras and these headphones when traveling, but that’s not really a big issue. I’d definitely recommend the tuneSTREAMs to anyone looking for a nice wireless experience.

You can purchase this product directly from Scosche for $99.99.
