How To: Get MMS On Your iPhone 3G or 3GS (AT&T) Without Updating To OS 3.1

Posted in Tips, Video by Omar C. Published September 26th, 2009

As I’m sure you know, AT&T has finally supplied iPhone customers with the option to send picture and video messages. Outside of the US, MMS has been available on iPhone’s since the launch of OS 3.0 while other phones have had MMS for years. Now that MMS is finally available the simple yet convenient feature can be seamlessly used by all. In fact, MMS doesn’t cost a penny more than regular SMS messages. For me, I’m on an unlimited messaging plan which comes in handy!

However, using the regular iTunes update method, users are required to run OS 3.1 before seeing the option to update the MMS carrier file. It is incorrect however to say you need OS 3.1 to use MMS. The video bellow walks you through the process of enabling MMS on your iPhone 3G or 3GS without installing OS 3.1. Simply download this file, option click update in itunes, and install. (I uploaded this file to my dropbox account so don’t worry about the download being malicious)

There are many reasons to stick with OS 3.0. Maybe you want to keep your 3GS jailbroken, or you want to use your 3G with exchange but not having MMS is a bummer. This simple process allows you to keep your current installation and simply enable MMS.
