Video App Review: Convert

Posted in Apps, Apps, Reviews, Video by Ryan W.. Published October 23rd, 2009

Rating: 10 out of 10
Pros: Visually one of the best looking apps available in my opinion. Allowed me to get rid of the stock calculator.
Cons: None that I could find.
Overall: A great application with an even better interface. This app to me embodies what the iPhone app experience should be.

You can purchase Convert for $1.99 in the App Store.

App Review: Eleminis

Posted in Apps, Apps, Game, Reviews, Video by Pashyn. Published October 21st, 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros:
Its a unique strategy puzzle game, with cute characters and challenging game play. Has  high replay value as well as online scoring and achievements.
Cons:
Graphics are nothing spectacular & you may find yourself muting the sound affects.
O
verall: Eleminis may not be for everyone as it is challenging, at times too challenging. However with its lite version to try as well as its fair price of $1.99 if your up for the challenge you’ll definitely find this app to be an experience.

You can purchase this game from the App Store for $1.99.

Video Review: Elago Slim Fit Case for iPhone

Posted in Cases, Reviews, Video by Pashyn. Published October 19th, 2009

Rating: 6 out of 10
Pros: Slim fit design, variety of color options, affordable, provides protection against scratched, scuffs, and minor dings.
Cons: Needs improvements on overall finish. Had areas that could potentially scratch your device which defeats the whole purpose of a case such as this one.
Overall: Although it could use some improvements, overall for the price and wide variety of colors its worth trying out. Especially if you’re a fan of slim fit cases.

You can purchase this product as well as find out more information by visiting the elagodesign website .

Video App Review: CoPilot Live GPS

Posted in Apps, Apps, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published October 19th, 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: A tremendous amount of options including the unique “Live” feature.  Accurate, nice layout and user interface, extremely affordable compared to some other GPS applications.
Cons: Sometimes it will bring route you a direction you would never think of, for example, instead of taking all highways it will route you through some back roads and I know the area and it is not the fastest route.  All options are not active as of yet but should be in later versions.  With all the options it could be confusing for the novice GPS user.
Overall: CoPliot Live for iPhone is a very detailed GPS app.  It has a ton of options and the “Live Services” feature is extremely unique.  With clean maps and a large POI database CoPilot is one of the best GPS apps for iPhone.  There are a few issues I would like to see addressed: CoPilot advertises that this version has text to speech but I did not hear text to speech nor could I find an option in the settings to activate it.  And as I mentioned above sometimes it will give you an unconventional route to your destination.  All in all a great GPS app and the price is right at $34.99 for all of North America.  Other countries are available from $34.99 to $99.99.

App Review: Pile up

Posted in Apps, Apps, Game, Reviews, Video by Pashyn. Published October 16th, 2009

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: Cool features like the ability to enable twitter updates of your game progress. 3 levels of fun, & quite addicting game play.
Cons: Although there are 3 separate levels they all seem far too similar & not to much difficulty separates them. There is no online scoring system so you’ll have to compete against yourself for top score.
Overall: Pile up is a fun & addicting pick-up and play game especially for those with micro-managing tendencies. It also has a pretty high replay value since you are constantly trying to top your personal best. If your up for a challenge then check it out.

You can purchase this game from the App Store for $.99.

Pros: Well thought out game. Not only fun but educational.

Cons: After reviewing the word list you can come away feeling a little dumb.

Overall: Really fun addicting game. 2 player mode is enjoyable as it test two minds.

You can purchase  Wurdle from the App Store for $1.99.

Control your vehicle from your iPhone

Posted in News, Video by Omar C. Published October 13th, 2009

This is probably one of the coolest iPhone accessories that I’ve seen recently. Viper, one of the leading automobile security companies in the United States, has released an app called Viper SmartStart which actually allows you to control your vehicle from your iPhone or iPod Touch (via Wi-Fi). I’m not talking James Bond remote driving. The SmartStart app will let you Lock/Arm, Unlock/Unarm, Trunk Release, Panic, and best of all Remote Start; all from your phone. Since it doesn’t work off of a radio frequency, you can control your vehicle from anywhere in U.S., as long as your vehicle is in range of a GSM cellular signal and your phone has a 3G or Wi-Fi signal. The SmartStart app is FREE, but the module required to control your vehicle is $299, and it only works with specific compatible systems. If you want to buy the whole kit including the alarm and module, it’ll cost you $599. Oh yeah and there’s a yearly service charge required as well, but that’ll only cost you a meager $29.99 a year; it’s a good thing the app is FREE. Check out the demo video below to see it in action. Hopefully Viper will be kind enough to allow us to test and review the SmartStart system for an upcoming review.
