iPhone Official in China

Posted in News by Ryan W.. Published November 3rd, 2009

chinaFriday the 30th marks the day that the iPhone 3GS was officially available from China Unicom. That isn’t to say that it hasn’t been available. Apple sells unlocked iPhones in Taiwan and Japan, so the phones have been available in the grey market for some time. The only caveat with the initial release of the 3GS is that there will be no wifi on the phones. During the negotiations with China Unicom, the government had an imposed ban on devices with wifi. That has since been lifted. The devices have already been manufactured without  it, but the next versions will hopefully have wifi. The phones will also be coming with a very steep price. Up to $630 for the version without wifi. A wifi equipped device can be had in the markets for $835.
