Apple begins Next Gen iPhone Field Testing

Posted in News by Danny Smallman. Published December 1st, 2009

It seems that Apple has begun testing the next generation iPhone that will most likely see a release sometime next year (probably July). A Developer, Pandav, has informed MacRumors that they have found the device “iPhone3,1″ in their usage records. The iBART Live app is an iPhone and iPod Touch transit application for the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit system.

This “iPhone3,1″ name is a term used by Apple to identify different iPhone Models. The “iPhone3,1″ does not match any current model that ships from Apple, with the current, latest 3GS model carrying the string “iPhone2,1″. The data has been supplied by PinchMedia. This is the company that Pandav uses to monitor App usage records.

This isn’t too surprising because last October Apple began testing the iPhone 3GS (iPhone2,1) before launch time as well. Those records were shown in the San Francisco bay Area, as were these records. This isn’t out of the ordinary, as this is very close to the area in which Apple is located.
