Video Review: Jewel Buds Earphones

Posted in Earphones, Reviews, Video by Pashyn. Published March 8th, 2010

Rating: 7 out of 10
Pros: Amazing cute looking earphones! They’re stylish, fashionable, and trendy. You’re almost getting a 2 in 1 package as the top half of the earphones look like a necklace or piece of jewelry. It has nice sound quality and its lightweight.
Cons: They don’t come with extra ear bud sizes which can be a downfall if you normally need a specific size (larger or smaller).
Overall: It’s a fierce looking product that will keep you stylish and in tune! It has decent sound quality and a fair price. If this is something you’d be interested in, I say check it out!

You can find this one and others like it for $44.95 at Jewelbuds.com

Video Review: MeElectronics M9 Earphones

Posted in Earphones, Editors' Choice, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published March 8th, 2010

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Phenomenal fit and finish, comes with a bunch of extras, braided cord with a flexible sheath, 45 degree headphone jack, the price can’t be beat.
Cons: This could be both a pro and a con depending on your tastes but the 4 foot cord could be a bit long during exercise otherwise these are near perfect.
Overall: The Meelectronics M9 earphones are a quality product at a very inexpensive price. With 9 mm drivers the bass is exceptional, comes in brushed aluminum or black and the extras that Mee packs in the box this deal is unprecedented: cord management, 3 ear gels, airplane adapter, and a hard sided case.  All this for $19.99 on their site.  With the exceptional quality in conjunction with this price point the MeElectronics M9’s get my Editor’s Choice Award.

You can check out the M9’s as well as all the offerings from Meelectronics by clicking here to visit their website.

Review: Kidz Gear Headphones for Kids

Posted in Earphones, Editors' Choice, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published March 4th, 2010

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Affordable, quality construction and sound  specifically designed for kids, comes in wired and wireless models, wired model has inline volume control, wireless model guaranteed to work with factory DVD systems
Cons: The cord on the wired model is a bit long if the child intends to use it with an iPod.
Overall: The headphones from Kidz Gear are a great solution for the kid in your life.  This portion of the population has been neglected for far too long.  Kids ears and heads are not the same size as adults and manufactures should not expect them to be satisfied with generic adult headphones and earbuds.  It’s a pleasure to see a company take into account the comfort of our children when they are listening to their music or watching a DVD on those long car trips. Not only did my daughter prefer them over earbuds but also seemed to have the volume lower due to the better fit. best of all they are so affordable if the kids break them, parents will not have a fit.  For all these reason Kidz Gear Headphones get my Editor’s Choice Award.

You can purchase Kidz Gear headphones from their website by clicking here.  The wired model is normally $19.99 but on sale now for $16.99 while the wireless version is on sale for $29.99 with a regular price of $34.99.

Monster Turbine In-Ear Headphones

Posted in Earphones, Reviews, Video by Nick. Published February 25th, 2010

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros: Fantastic audio quality, strong mids, clear highs, powerful (not hard hitting) bass. Leather carrying pouch.
Cons: No inline microphone, can be uncomfortable to use.
Overall: Great pair of headphones, highly recommended for $100. The only genre I found that these did not excel at is classical, for any modern music these will definitely please you. Due to the overall length of the drive enclosure it can  rub against the back of your ear making them uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Comply Foam Tips & WHOOMP Enhancers

Posted in Earphones, Editors' Choice, Misc, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published February 19th, 2010

Rating: 9 out of 10
Pros Foam Tips: Extremely comfortable replacement tips for a number of earbuds, comes in packs of 3 or 5.  TX version has built in Wax Guard, isolates and enhances sound.
Cons Foam Tips: After about a month the foam tips don’t reshape themselves and become a bit mushy.
Pros WHOOP: Very easy to install on your stock Apple earbuds, foam tips keep earbuds in your ears much better than the stock Apple earbuds, surprisingly makes the Apple earbuds sound much better with deeper bass.
Cons WHOOP: After about a month the foam tips don’t reshape themselves and become a bit mushy.
Overall: The Comply Foam Tips provide excellent fit and are very comfortable, especially for long periods of time.  After your stock foam tips have worn out these are great replacement foam tips.  The tips come in packs of 3 for $19.99 or packs of 5 for $27.99.  Choose from the P-Series, T-100 or the Tx-100 with Integrated Wax Guard.  The WHOOMPS are great sound enhancers and frankly comfort enhancers for your standard Apple earbuds and for the  price; $9.95 you really can’t go wrong.

Check out these and all the offerings from Comply Foam Tips by clicking here and being directed to their website.

Video Review: Jaybird Bluetooth Headphones

Posted in Bluetooth, Earphones, Headsets, Reviews, Video by Tom Moccia. Published January 26th, 2010

Rating: 8 out of 10
Pros: Great Bluetooth headphones that work very nicely with your iPhone but can also be paired with other Bluetooth devices.  Can be used for stereo audio or for phone calls. High quality with a great fit and finish.
Cons: Since the iPhone only supports A2DP Bluetooth, (and not AVRCP) the user must forward tracks manually on the iPhone or via voice control.
Overall: Jaybird does it again with another great pair of headphones.  The SB1 Sportsband Bluetooth headphones cut the wire and provide a great listening experience with booming bass.  The SB1’s don’t disappoint on phone calls either; very clear calls and friends on the end said the call was crisp.  When a phone call comes in your music will fade and after the call it returns to listening volume.  Jaybird also has great customer service and warranties their headphones for life against sweat or rain damage.

The Jaybird SB1 Bluetooth Sportsband Headset retails for $89 and can be purchased directly from the Jaybird website.
