No more speculation necessary. Apple finally announced that their much hyped device will be available on April 3rd, 2010. The device will also be available for pre-order on the 12th of this month. After a crazy week of speculation from rumored sources and reassurance from the manufacturers, the device now has a specific release date. Apple however wasn’t able to meet the March shipping deadline they self imposed. But only 3 days off isn’t too bad in my book. As mentioned by Apple, the WiFi only version will be offered now, with the 3G/WiFi iPad shipping at the end of April. Those of you not in the US do have to wait until the end of April to get your hands on one. The good news however, both models will be available at the same time. Hit the break for the full release details supplied by Apple.
It seem like Apple has been on a tear as of late. Removing certain types of apps left and right. Well now they’ve taken the fight to WiFi sniffing applications. Applications that actively “sniff” for signals were pulled. Apps that rely on GPS search and cell triangulation were not removed from the App Store. The reason: Apple truly hasn’t given a specific answer. Some developers whose applications were removed were told, they’re apps used private frameworks. Which frameworks however, were not given. What is disappointing is these developers have spent time on these apps and now they no longer have an avenue to sell them.
Last year the CEO of Netflix responded to the question of whether or not the iPhone and iPad would get Netflix. He stated it was an avenue they would consider but at that time wasn’t being focused on. Well maybe now is the time. According to HackingNetflix.com a survey has been presented to a few lucky subscribers of the movie streaming site. The survey says:
“Imagine that Netflix offers its subscribers the ability to instantly watch movies & TV episodes on their iPhone. The selection availability to instantly watch includes some new releases, lots of classics and TV episodes. There are no advertisements or trailers, and movies start in as little as 30 seconds. You can fast-forward, rewind, and pause or watch again. The movies & TV episodes you instantly watch are included in your Netflix membership for no additional fee.
Whenever you want to instantly watch content on your iPhone, your iPhone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network (such as one you might have at home or at work, or in public places like coffee shops, book stores, hotels, airports, etc.)
If this functionality were available, how likely would you or someone in your household be to instantly watch movies & TV episodes on your iPhone via a Wi-Fi network?
What is interesting to note is that Netflix used this same format to survey the interest of its users to determine whether or not streaming to the PS3 or Wii would be something they would like. And we all know how that turned out. I for one would love to watch my instant que on both the iPhone and upcoming iPad. The question is though will Apple allow it and would AT&T support it.
Well it looks like Apple’s new flagship device might be going on sale Friday, March 26th at 6pm. Both MacRumors and the Examiner have gotten word from their respective sources that the device will be sent to Apple stores nationwide on the 10th. At that time, Apple employees will receive training necessary to answer questions from prospective buyers when the device is available for sale. As we know the WiFi only iPad will be available at this time, with the 3G version following suit within a month or so. Now the question is how many of the iPads will be available at launch. A buzz on the internet, is that Apple’s suppliers are having a tough time with the production of the device, reducing the potential amount that would be ready to ship. Some numbers are that only 300K would be ready, down from the initial amount hoped for of 1 million. Apple once again has something in mind for the early adopters. If you line up to purchase the iPad, Apple is said to be surprising those people with a gift. Who knows what it will be.

Rumors were in the air early this week at the Barcelona Mobile World Congress industry trade fair. Supposedly the current Google – Apple union could soon be traded for Microsoft’s new Bing search engine. Reuters reported Google vice president Vic Gundotra commented that the current union was “Stable”
“Apple is a very close and valuable partner and we’re very excited about the relationship we have with them today. We have no reason to believe that’s going to change,” Vic Gundotra, who leads Google’s mobile engineering, told journalists on Monday.
“We don’t want to comment on those rumours,” he said when pressed on the issue of the iPhone at a round table at industry trade fair Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. “We think that relationship is stable.”
On the flip side, Reuters reports from the Microsoft side, when asked about the proposed rumor, CEO Steve Ballmer was tight lipped and uttered, “No comment” with a smile. The rumors surround the industry trade fair Mobile World Congress which is taking place in Barcelona this week. Read more at Reuters.

Wednesday is the day, another Apple event; another slew of rumors surrounding the impending release of new and updated product line-ups. Naturally, the majority of the rumors this year surround the highly anticipated Mac Tablet, leaving many other imminent updates overlooked, or all together forgotten about. February has often catered in updates to most the Mac lineup, ranging from simple hardware upgrades, to new sleek exteriors.
This year Apple has left only a handful of products untouched, up until now. The iMac, Mac Mini, and MacBook all saw updates late October, and will likely be left untouched until later in the year. The products desperately due for updates include: Macbook Pro, Mac Pro, Macbook Air, and the Apple Cinema Display. Below shows the current rumors surrounding each of these products, and likely upgrades that will be seen this Wednesday.
AT&T loses exclusivity of iPhone:
With 2010 being the year many expected Apple to move the iPhone to multiple networks the time has never been better. AT&T has become embarrassed lately by their networks inability to handle the data hungry iPhone crowd, and with their exclusive deal rumored to run out in 2010 expect to see Verizon, T-Mobile, or Sprint finally enter the era of the iPhone, my money is on Verizon. Rogers Wireless is the licensed cellular provider of iPhone in Canada. Early last week, on one of their webpages, it was stated that the iPhone 3GS would add a third model to the line, an 8GB model. The comparison chart (below), was the only hint to the 8GB model, meaning it was not available for purchase, and would not appear on listings.

Early this morning, Rogers removed the 8GB iPhone 3GS from the table, and Gizmodo received a report from a spokesperson at Rogers that it was “posted in error.” Keep in mind, having a new addition of an 8GB 3GS would certainly be something Apple would want to post themselves, and would most likely not announce until the iPod keynotes in September. Why would Rogers be updating their site 2 months in advance? I personally believe that this was in fact an error on Rogers’ part, and that we will not see an 8GB iPhone 3GS, unless it’s below a $99 price point with a 2 year contract. Even then, it may not be released until early next year.
Coming this fall, Apple releases the iCar! Apple did a good job keeping it totally under wraps! It comes with a 10” built-in touch screen located on the dash for easy access to all your favorite apps. Radio transmitters are finally a thing of the past as the iCar has a built in iPhone ready to be synced with your iTunes library and making hands-free phone calls! There’ll be a docking station on the front seat passenger side for easy access to your Macbook on the go! There are 6 different ports found in the car itself for easy access to every portable electronic device known to man, sorry not pc compatible! These are just to name a few.
Alright…. so the iCar is not really launching this fall. However isn’t it possible that Apple could be considering it, or at least discussing it? I know I’m not the only one who secretly dreams of such things. Of course the question then is, is there a market for this sort of geek heaven vehicle to roam our highways? Is it more plausible to consider a team up between Nissan, Toyota, or Volkswagen and Apple, as they did with AT&T?
All speculation set aside I speak for myself and a few other obsessed Apple fans when I say “Dear Mr. Jobs, we love what you do, and yes we want more! Dazzle us, surprise us and please let us drive a vehicle with Apple technology built in just as we’ve always dreamed… ”
Sign this Twitter Petition, or Twitition to bring attention to the denial and hope that AT&T and Apple will change their minds and allow this kind of app into the App Store.
