Apple released a statement today stating the signal bars being displayed is the culprit behind the issue. Apple claims the display is showing the wrong amount of bars, which is giving the user a false reading. Earlier when consumers were reporting signal loss problems, Apple was attributed with saying it was the way users held the device which inadvertently blocked the antenna and adding a Bumper Case should solve the problem.  The antenna was placed at the bottom of the phone this time, something Apple says most cellphones do, but engineers for Apple say this is the main reason signal strength is compromised.  Apple is apparently going to release a software update for the 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4 later that will make the first three bars taller and more easy to see.  Read the official statement from Apple by clicking here.
